Though the curriculum for each district varies slightly, Collinsville Community Unit School District has adopted some district-wide programs. Character Education, for example, teaches the habits of thought and deed that help people live and work together as families, friends, neighbors, and communities. This nation-wide endeavor began in 1988 when a group of educators, parents and business leaders decided to put an end to the decline of basic values. Recently, Renfro Elementary School was honored among the National Schools of Character by the Character Education Partnership (CEP). Through class work, volunteer projects, community events and special interest activities, the entire elementary staff at Collinsville Community Unit School District strives to prepare every child for the next phase of their education.
Collinsville Middle School, located on Collinsville Road, uses the team approach in order to amalgamate core subjects and provide a more nurturing learning environment. Students at each grade level are divided into four teams with four core subject teachers on each team. Collinsville Middle School teachers frequently work across grade levels to ensure a continuum of learning for the students. As a result, students at Collinsville Middle School enjoy a unique camaraderie which not only bolsters them in their scholastic and extra-curricular activities, but also alleviates some of the emotional turmoil that comes with being 12 to 14 years old. Since many of the clubs and activities offered at Collinsville High School have feeder programs in the middle school, students have more opportunities to hone their skills and learn more about their interests while in school.
The athletics department at Collinsville High School is ranked in the top five of all the schools in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
